Our Role in Orange County
|
OUR ROLE IN ORANGE COUNTY A kitten lost and alone, abandoned by its mother. A missing
dog wandering along the road, sad it had wandered so far from home. An
abandoned cat left in what it called home, deserted by its owner. An untrained
dog forgotten in the backyard, with no one to play or pet it, its family
inside, no longer wanting the grown dog, they once loved when it was a puppy.
For most of us, our pets are an important and cherished part of the family. Unfortunately
not all animals are treated the same way. What happens to these animals?
Where do they go? Who takes care of them and protects them? Orange County Humane Society is a non-profit organization,
dedicated to the care and protection of pets in our community. Our
organization rescues and provides medical care, treatment, food, shelter and
tender loving care these lost or unwanted pets need, until they are reunited
with their family again or until a new friend is found to bring their new
companion home.
OCHS participates in local events and programs in our OCHS also works hand in hand with animal control, and helps
is enforcing licensing and other animal ordinances. Our shelter provides each
of their pets with shelter and care until their owner is found or their cases
are closed. If no owner comes to redeem their pet, then we find them a new
home that will better provide care for our pets. We also reach out to other
shelter, not just in Orange County, but also in surrounding Counties. Due to
the high numbers of stray and unwanted pets, many shelters become overwhelmed
with animals, we try to relieve them of their unfortunate decision to
euthanize, by providing their animals with homes, when we have the space to accommodate
for them. We hope by rescuing animals from other shelters, we will allow them
more time, to find their perfect match, and for the community to find the
life-long friend. OCHS also serves our community by providing another place
for owner’s to surrender an animal. The reasons for giving up an animal can
vary, but without local shelters and humane rescues, those animals would be
left abandoned to care for themselves. OC Humane Society’s main purpose, to find each of our pets
the perfect home so that they can live the rest of their lives as every pet
should, with the love and care of a friend. Each year, thousands of animals
pass through our doors: lost pets, injured animals, rescued animals, and
surrendered animals. Each of these animals are found new homes, we do not put
time limits or deadlines for their stay. We provide care and shelter to each
of our animals, who are healthy, adoptable and not aggressive, until a new
one is found. Our shelter has found over 100,000’s of homes for our pets over
the years and hope to continue to do so. Thanks to the support of many
individuals, volunteers, local businesses, contracts and fees, OCHS is able
to make a huge difference in the lives of those who cannot speak for
themselves, the abandoned pets of our community. |
